Braden Chiaramonte Races Into Both AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car Series Features During Debut Weekend With Series
PETERSEN MEDIA: Not only was it Braden Chiaramonte’s first time ever visiting the Central AZ Raceway in Casa Grande, AZ, but it was also his first time competing with the AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car Series. During a weekend that saw a number of provisionals being utilized, Chiaramonte was able to race his way into both feature events.
“I thought our weekend went really well,” Chiaramonte said. “It was definitely the fastest track I have ever ran a non-winged car at, and I was happy we made both features and were pretty competitive.”
Checking in at the Central AZ Raceway for the Western World Championship on Friday night, Chiaramonte got his weekend underway by timing in 21st quickest in time trials with 46 cars packed into the pit area.
Running second in his heat race to Late Model Star, Ricky Thornton Jr, the El Cajon, CA driver was locked into the feature event as he took the green flag from the 21st starting position.
From the back of the pack, Chiaramonte was able to make some moves as he worked his way towards the Top-15. When the dust settled on the opening night feature, Chiaramonte capped the night off with a 16th place finish.
Set for more USAC National Sprint Car Series action on Saturday night for the Western World Championship finale, Chiaramonte picked up a third-place finish in his qualifier which again locked him directly into the feature event.
Taking the green flag from the 12th starting position, Chiaramonte took a liking to the high side of the speedway when the action came to life after an extended track prep session prior to the race coming to life.
With the top staying extremely fast, passing was tricky but it Chiaramonte was able to maintain as he mixed it up with some of the best in the non-winged game.
Continuing to run 12th as the laps clicked off, Chiaramonte then became one of the handful of drivers that had fuel issues on the race’s final lap.
When it was all said and done, the youngster closed the weekend out with a 21st place officially.
“Unfortunately it took a little too long for us to run the track in before going green, and a few of us ran out of fuel, and the rest of the guys were extremely low that were lucky enough to make it,” Chiaramonte added. “Just a little bad luck, but I am proud of what we accomplished all weekend. We raced into both shows and adapted quickly to a new track.”
