Braden Chiaramonte Powers to USAC/BCRA Midget Win at Antioch Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing aboard a midget for the first time since July, Braden Chiaramonte was up to speed fast as he set quick time honors before charging from fifth to pick up the win on Saturday night in Antioch, CA.
“I was really happy with how Saturday night went,” Braden Chiaramonte said. “Not only was it my first night back in a midget since July, but it was my first night ever in this car. We had a ton of speed all night, and it is really cool to get a win.”
Getting the night kicked off by setting the standard in qualifying time trials and setting fast time, Chiaramonte lined up in the second row of his heat race on a surface that was still extremely fast and narrow.
Finishing in fourth, Chiaramonte was set to line up in the third row of the feature event on a surface that still wasn’t the most conducive to passing.
When the race came to life, Chiaramonte was very patient as he slowly worked his way to third as he was able to make his car work well using the low side of the speedway.
As the laps clicked off and Chiaramonte ran out of time, the El Cajon, CA driver started searching for another line and ultimate put all four wheel above the cushion and was able to make headway.
Wrestling his car around the rough stuff, Chiaramonte powered is way into the lead on the 25th circuit and never looked back.
Leading the final six laps, Chiaramonte went on to score his second career Antioch Speedway win.
“It was a fun race, but once I got into third I knew I needed to make something happen,” Chiaramonte added. “I tried going up above the cushion and it worked really well. Thankful for the opportunity, and happy to get this team a win.”
