Braden Chiaramonte Doubles Up on Runner Ups at Imperial Valley Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA: Shedding the wings over the weekend and returning to his family car for USAC/CRA action at Imperial Valley Speedway, Braden Chiaramonte had a great weekend as he scored runner up finishes both Friday and Saturday night.
“Imperial Valley is a lot of fun, and we had a great car all weekend,” Braden Chiaramonte said. “Friday night I was able to race into the lead, I just didn’t get through traffic well enough and Saturday night I ran out of time running the leader down.”
The youngster from El Cajon, CA turned in two nearly identical nights with the series as he timed in second fastest both Friday and Saturday night, and picked up second place finishes in heat race action both nights, and even ran second in both feature events.
Friday night, Chiaramonte took the green flag from the fifth starting position and showcased a very strong car underneath him as he sliced and diced his way into second. Reaching second in dense traffic, the youngster thrust himself into the race lead on the 23rd lap and went from hunter to hunted.
With traffic proving to be chaotic, Chiaramonte saw Ricky Lewis repay the favor in the closing laps as he slipped back to second where he went to finish out Friday night’s feature event.
Lining up sixth in Saturday night’s feature event, Chiaramonte again had a very strong car underneath him and wasted no time working his way to the front of the field.
Able to get into second, the 18-year-old continued to cut into Lewis’ lead but time was not on his side. Closing in on Lewis, Chiaramonte was greeted with the checkered flag sooner than he wanted as he picked up his second consecutive runner up finish.
“We were in the mix both nights and that really is a great feeling,” Chiaramonte. “Each night I learn a little more in the seat and that goes a long way.”
