Friday Night Runner Up Finish Highlights Busy Weekend for Braden Chiaramonte
PETERSEN MEDIA: Braden Chiaramonte spent his weekend at Placerville Speedway doing double duty both Friday and Saturday night. Running up front in the non-winged feature both nights, Friday night’s runner up finish highlighted the weekend after a part failure hindered him while leading on Saturday.
“We were extremely fast in the non winged car both nights,” Braden Chiaramonte said. “In the winged car, we kind of struggled to find speed each night.”
In USCS non winged action on Friday night, Chiaramonte kicked the night off by timing in second fastest in his qualifying flight which lined him up on the front row of his heat race.
Powering to the heat race win, Chiaramonte lined up for the feature event in the second row and wasted no time working his way forward as the race came to life.
Jumping into second, Chiaramonte was hot on the tail of early leader, Tanner Carrick. Hounding Carrick for much of the race, Chiaramonte blasted into the lead on the 21st lap as the leaders raced through thick lapped traffic.
Looking be on his way to his first win of the season, a late caution bunched the field back up for one final restart. When the action resumed, a misstep allowed Ryan Bernal to steal the lead on the final lap, as Chiaramonte finished in the runner up position.
Back in action on Saturday night, Chiaramonte got off to an even better start as he earned fast time honors in his qualifying flight, and charged from fifth to finish third in his heat race.
Lining up in the second row of the feature event, Chiaramonte was out in front on the third lap, and continued to look very strong on the ¼ mile despite countless red and yellow flag stoppages hindering his pace.
A restart just after the halfway point changed Chiarmonte’s night as something broke in his
front end as he raced into turns one and two, and as his car darted left contact ensued and brought his night to an end.
“It has been a bit of a frustrating year,” Chiaramonte said. “We have been so fast in the non wing car and continue to lead laps but just cant quite get to victory lane. I know have tons of speed so I was just keep focusing on putting complete nights together and I know they will come soon.”
